Capturing Life's Fleeting Moments…

Roses From Spring February 29, 2008

Can believe these are from last Spring and I just edited them?

Spring of 2008 is just around the corner and I can’t believe I have so many varieties of flowers left to edit that I photographed last year.

I’m soooo backed up on my editing!!

By the way…Jen Weaver Photography Blogspot hit 4000 hits today! I can’t believe it! Only 24 days ago it hit 3000…I can’t believe it! Yay!

It was suggested I try this in Black & White and I’ve glad it was suggested!

I love how it came out after burning & dodging!

Coutry Road Take Me Home February 27, 2008

After my sister and I visited the beach on February 3rd I headed home from her house on the “scenic” route hoping to catch the sunset over the farms.

I pulled over on the side of the road, set up the tripod by my car and took these two:

Then I set up the tripod in the actual cornfield across the street and took the next one:

Lots-o-Links for Photography Lovers February 27, 2008

More With Lee February 24, 2008

Finally got back to editing the photoshoot of my pal Lee. I know…you’re saying “there’s more?” and the answer is yes. Quite a few more to go through and edit.

Lee was a patient subject and even though the time flew by I took a lot of shots. The reason why it’s also taking so long is because these photos (in my opinion) are filled with a lot of emotion and I feel the need to try multiple post processing effects until I find the right one for the photograph.

One of my FAVORITE EDITS today! I love how I made Lee’s eye look!!

Since Lee is a writer we decided to do some shots with his trusty blue notebook.

Lee also wanted a shot showing the area where her lives so we took this shot with is pup Elliot Igby.

Eye-Popping & Sharpening Tutorials February 23, 2008

Thanks to a tutorial shared by Mark I re-edited these 2 photos below to make my eyes “pop.”

You’ll find this “eye-popping” tutorial from Parc Cruz on FLICKR: through the link below:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/parc/sets/72157603471515529/

In addition to enhancing the eyes in the photo I also boosted the contrast and tweaked the curves in photoshop to get the final result shown below.

Try this tutorial – it’s very easy to do and once you get the hang of it only takes an extra minute or so in your post processing.

BEFORE

AFTER

The photographer named Parc Cruz that created the eye-popping tutorial on FLICKR also created and shared a sharpening tutorial for the eyes. If you’d like to try the eye sharpening tutorial click the link below:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/parc/sets/72157594375402709/

I tried the “eye popping tutorial” along with the “sharpening” tutorial and these are the results:

BEFORE
No retouching done at all…as you can tell by my skin (ick):

AFTER
Skin retouching with the clone tool, Noise Ninja applied, curves adjusted, and the 2 tutorials used for eye enhancement and eye sharpening:

Both photos in the examples above were done with completely natural lighting coming through a window.

Parc Cruz also shared some of his Before and After’s which are quite amazing. He doesn’t share how he does it but they are unbelieavable and I admire his work. See his Before & After’s through the link below:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/parc/sets/72157602106578038/

Later in the day (after I got used to these tutorials) I worked on the following photo, edited the original, and then applied 4 other actions to it that I just LOVE!

Original with NO EDITING:

Colored edited and tweaked as well as the eye popping & sharpening tutorials applied:

My Favorite Model…Ummm…Make That One of My Only Models….Me Again February 23, 2008

Today we had lots-o-snow so I worked from home until my company closed. I was so bored that I went outside and shot some macro photos of the snow and water droplets and that didn’t last long because of the freezing rain that was falling (see post below for the snow shots).

So, what else is there to do when you’re bored? I decided I would take photos of my favorite model…hmm….well one of my FEW models….ME.

If you’re not sick of seeing my “mug” yet…here is what I experimened with today…

It’s hard to get a great focus on the eye when you’re doing self portrais but the more practice I have the more I’m getting better at it.

These are all taken with Natural lighting from my window (first time trying this indoors):

YAY for snow! February 22, 2008

For some reason I’m really excited that it’s snowing. Don’t ask me why…I just am!

Nothing special photographically – I took these out my back door through the window so the quality isn’t perfect but I wanted to capture the snow.

I may get out later and take a ride and capture some photos of the snowy day…let’s see if I can actually bring myself to get all bundled up and go out in the cold!!

And some of Lucas playing in the snow! Happy joy for him!!

And time to dry off! :)

After Lucas had fun in the snow I went outside on my own with my new Nikon 105mm AF-S VR f/2.8G IF-ED lens and shot the following shots.

Each of them are obviously water droplets but what I was so enthralled with today were the reflections in the water droplets.

I had very hard time hand holding the macros while trying to auto-focus. I was insistent on trying anyway because I didn’t want to lug the tripod outside in the snow with the rainy mist that was falling and the overall slushy conditions. So, I did the best I could with the photo taken conditions.

Branches reflected:

Tree branches reflected:

The houses across the street and branches reflected:

Two windows on the front of my house reflected:

I took so many more but the focus wasn’t there were I wanted.

Good News!! I Made a Sale of 4 of My Dragan Style Photos February 22, 2008

Good news! I forgot to mention that I made my first official sale off my website that generated me an actual profit (I’ve made other sales on my smugmug site but they were at wholesale cost to friends…no profit).

The sale was to the lovely mother of my lovely friend Tiffany. Her mother purchased the Andrzej Dragan style photos of Tiffany’s 2 sons to hang in their bedroom!

The 4 Dragan Effect Style photos can be seen in this blog post from a while back. More Dragan effect information and a tutorial can be found on there as well.

Yay! An actual sale of my work!! It worth all of the time spent on the Photoshop post-processing on those photos!

I will be sure to snap pictures of the photos (mounted in frames on the wall of their room) once they are hung so I can share them here on my blog.

So exciting!

More of my Dragn Stle photos can be seen in this gallery: http://www.jenweaverphotography.com/gallery/3907308_QE5cy/1/236338979_e3adt

More of Rural New Jersey and LJ Herman February 22, 2008

The Agway Silos below were photographed in Flemington, New Jersey back on September 2nd on one of my Sunday photo trips with my sister. We stopped at a few churches, at some at some farms where I got a few great barns and some horses.

On the way home we stopped at a couple cemeteries and a 2nd hand shop that will make you laugh when you see some of the details. :)

I finally had a chance to start editing the photos that I took that day tonight.

I love rural feeling photos so when I saw these silos I made sure my sister and I pulled over to photograph them. I love the conversions on some of these. The brownish tinted one is definitely my favorite action lately.

The next place featured below from our stops along the way home is LJ Herman’s Second Hand Shop in East Windsor, NJ. “Second hand” prominently displayed with a giant painted hand on the front of the mossy green colored building.

I had to photograph this place…I passed it so many times throughout my childhood while traveling down Route 130. I don’t know why…maybe it’s my love of old places with peeling paint that look abandoned but once I really got into photography last year I promised myself that I would stop and photograph it one day. This was the perfect day with the most perfect blue sky all day (the circular poloarizer made it even more of a perfect blue sky that day).

My favorite part of LJ Herman’s 2nd Hand Shop isn’t that it’s FOR SALE – it’s the sign on the door where you would normally find someone’s shop hours. Looks like the hours used to be there on the poster board with an additional note that says “and whenever my truck is here.” Now how great is that!? It just had me giggling!

The other door on the shop has what looks like the owner’s phone number along with another great sign that only says “Open when my truck is here.” I guess if you were interested in visiting the shop you had to swing by to look for the truck. :)

Not sure if you find it funny but some reason it cracked me up.

There’s just something about this green old second hand shop that I love.

I better start capturing all the places I’ve always loved around New Jersey before they are all gone!

Lunar Eclipse Tonight February 21, 2008

I photographed some of the Lunar Eclipse tonight and I was not as succesful as I thought I would be… It was FREEZING out and it was VERY hard to get the moon in focus because it was moving too darn fast for the slow shutter speeds. It was hard to do anything when the wind chill made it feel like 19 degrees and I couldn’t feel my fingers!

I managed to get a few cool photos but nothing showing all of the phases of the moon as I’ve seen from others (particularly my friend Colin in Australia in August shown on his BLOG HERE).

Here are some photos of the basic photos I took tonight of the eclipse:

A long exposure of the eclipse:
