Wishing I Was Here April 1, 2009

Our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone.

Blue Skies at the Kitty Hawk Dunes February 8, 2009

This week I needed a little distraction from the work I was doing so I dove into some unedited photos from my trip to Outer Banks back in Aug/Sept of this year.
The photos below were taken in the Kitty Hawk Dunes. The sky was AMAZING that day.  So blue…and a polarizer doesn’t hurt either! If you don’t have one for shooting the sky…get one!
I can’t even describe what it’s like to climb dunes this tall and then walk around inside of them.   The silence you experience while you’re in the dunes is amazing.

The dunes are famous for hang gliding:

Honestly, I could have stayed there for hours but I dragged my poor mom around enough so I took the photos I wanted and we headed to our next destination that day.

If you’ve never seen or heard about these dunes do a search for “Kitty Hawk Dunes” on and take a look at some of the videos people have posted.

Pano @ Topsail February 7, 2009

I did this panoramic of Topsail beach but for some reason if you look closely at it – it didn’t line up properly.

From far away it looks good but the ocean has some skips in it. I’m not sure why it happened but I tried it a few times and it still happened.

Does anyone have any advice as on what I could have done differently?

Hammocks Beach State Park

With its lush forests‚ wide beaches and varied marine and wildlife‚ Onslow County’s coastal terrain offers diverse scenery and activities for nature enthusiasts.

Nearly 750‚000 people visit the county’s parks annually‚ according to Mac Sligh‚ director of the Onslow County Parks and Recreation Department. “We have some really wonderful natural resources and well-maintained facilities‚” he says.

One of the more historically and environmentally significant parks is Swansboro’s Hammocks Beach State Park. The nationally acclaimed nature preserve includes the 225-acre Huggins Island – which includes a rare maritime swamp forest – as well as the 892-acre Bear Island‚ one of the last unspoiled barrier islands in North Carolina.

With its sandy dunes‚ salt marshes‚ estuarine creeks‚ shrub thickets and maritime forest‚ Bear Island offers a peaceful alternative to overcrowded‚ commercialized beaches.

After accessing the island by private boat or the park’s own passenger ferry‚ guests can take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean‚ fish for puppy drum‚ flounder‚ trout and blue fish‚ marvel at marine life found in the tidal pools and mudflats‚ or hike 3.5 miles of undisturbed beaches.

Visitors also may be greeted by migratory birds‚ raccoons‚ foxes‚ ghost crabs or 150- to 300-pound loggerhead sea turtles.

San Diego Skyline from Coronnado January 3, 2009

I’m so excited that I got to stop with Heather and my friend Kyle to enjoy the SD skyline and capture this night cityscape!
I’ve yet to take the NYC skyline at night and I live only 45 minutes away – so haven’t this is a real treat!

La Jolla Cove January 2, 2009

On my birthday we headed to San Diego (my favorite place from my excursions with Heather) and we stopped at La Jolla Cove right after sunset.
It was so beautiful to see in person and I had to keep reminding myself to see with my EYES and not JUST through the viewfinder of my camera.
I had no tripod with me so I made use of the cement walls or something steady wherever I could find something.

Happy Birthday to Us! December 23, 2008

I spent my birthday in San Diego Tuesday with Heather and an old friend that I used to work with (Kyle) who I hadn’t seen in 6 years.

Kyle moved to San Diego about 3 years back and I was excited when I realized Heather didn’t live far from S.D. and we were all able to get together for lunch.

Heather bought me a yummy desert and I ate it before my meal even came..

When we were leaving Kyle mentioned that he had some free time and he took on the roll of tour guide for us – which made our night!

We even had him use the Nikons to get some photos of us without us having to hold our arm and take it ourselves! LOL :)

We visited the beach at La Jolla as the sun set and got some great scenic shots!

It was chillllllly!  We were loving our hoods last night!

After La Jolla we headed over to Coronado and we captured the SanDiego skyline before we headed out.

After I said goodbye to Kyle :( we head off for our mutual birthday dinners (Heather Nov 14th) and mine which was on the day of the dinner (yesterday12/22).

I had the best meal of shrimp & homemade pasta with tomatoes, garlic Arguala in a white wine/lemon sauce.  It was awesome (and of course I added a ton of grated Parmesan cheese).

San Diego was one of my favorite days of the trip…and even despite the fact that it rained that day we had a GREAT time!!

Avon-by-the Sea with the D’s! October 17, 2008

Last night I finished the “D Family” photo session and then today I got to share the gallery in person because Dad “S” and I work together at my day job.  I think he really liked them and that made me very happy!! :D
Nothing is better than a beach session taken for a great friend, with a beautiful family, on a gorgeous day in October! We got rained out on our first scheduled date and I couldn’t have asked for a better rain date!
Even though we had to end a little bit early because little “N” was getting cold I think we got some great stuff!
S & D – I hope you a great time on the beach and that you enjoy the photos!

The D Family October 6, 2008

I had a great shoot with the “D Family” today at my favorite beach spot for photography – Avon By The Sea NJ.

Dad “S” and I work together (at my day job) :) and we’ve been talking about doing this shoot on the beach with his family for months.  We finally got it scheduled for last Sunday but we got rained out – so today was our rain date. In the early afternoon it looked overcast with dull gray skies but suddenly the sky was a perfect blue with big puffy white clouds (just my type of photography day!).

It was a little windy and chilly on the beach but you wouldn’t know it because the family braved through it with smiles on their faces.

I usually reveal my favorites later but the first shot below is one of my top favorites from the session.

I hope to be sharing more in the next week or two from this session with this wonderful family!
